James Earl Shelly

October 14, 1917 — February 24, 2014

James Earl Shelly, age 96 of Ash Flat, Arkansas, passed away February 24, 2014 at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas. He was born October 14, 1917 in Rogers Springs, Tennessee to Lee and Viola (Webb) Shelly. He served in the United States Army for ten years. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel of the United States Air Force where he taught R.O.T.C. James worked for NASA for five years and then taught at Highland High School for ten years. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Faye (Gibbins) Shelly; and two brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Sue Carter and husband Johnny of Cherokee Village, Arkansas and Kay Boyd and husband Marc of Ash Flat, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Joy, Ross, Adam, Shelly, Kara, Ethan, and Cael; six great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 27, 2014 from Noon until service time at the Ash Flat Church of Christ. Funeral Services will begin Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ash Flat Church of Christ with Johnny Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Wiles Cemetery located in Ash Flat, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Ross Carter, Adam Carter, Ethan Barnes, Mike Graddy, Marc Boyd, and Charlie Martin. Honorary Pallbearers are James Nicholson,Jack Richardson, and Danny Murphy. All arrangements are by Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland, Arkansas. www.tricountyfuneralhome.com
