Gilbert J. McCracken, 79, of Cave City, Arkansas passed away September 16, 2025 at his home. He was born May 27, 1946 to J.R. "Pete" and Willie Faye Johnson McCracken in Mt. Pleasant, Arkansas. He worked as a cattle rancher and enjoyed playing cards, story telling, and working. Gilbert was a member of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association and Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Perkey McCracken; three children: James Dale McCracken, Lisa Bray, and Regina Hutchinson; nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Erbie Perkey and two sisters, Jean McCracken and Barbara Qualls; many other relatives and good friends.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, J.R. "Pete" McCracken and Willie Faye McCracken Perkey and step-father, Erbin Perkey; a sister, Maureen Fontana; and three grandchildren: Robby McCracken, Colton Bray, and Sydney Bray.
Per the wishes of Gilbert, he was buried the day after his death, September 17, 2025, at 10 a.m. in the McCracken Family Cemetery on his farm. Phillip Lewallen and Bobby Sanders officiated the graveside service; Pat Bray and Tara Jo Barnett provided music; Jeff Qualls opened and closed the grave (with many sincere thanks from the family). Grandchildren served as pallbearers while other family members and friends were honorary pallbearers.
