Jimmie Don Kunkel

March 4, 1940 — October 6, 2026

Jimmie Don Kunkel, 86, of Evening Shade, Arkansas passed from his earthly life to eternal rest and peace in Heaven at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas.  He was born the only child of Jim Roy and Ruth Mae Metcalf Kunkel, both who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Lecia Holcombe of Newark, AR, two step-children, Julie Jines of California and Don Nelson of Evening Shade. Even though the family was small, Jim thoroughly enjoyed 4th of July activities with them and the many lifelong friends throughout Sharp County and Arkansas.

Jimmie Don was a lifetime member of the Piney Fork Church of Christ, and his lifetime work was as a cattle farmer; his "hobby" was checking the cows. He served as elected tax collector in Sharp County for sixteen years and worked at the Ash Flat Sale Barn for fourteen years. He was a police officer when Cherokee Village was first developed as a retirement community and personally protected the original developer, John A. Cooper, on many trips.

Services will be Friday, October 9, 2026 in the Piney Fork Church of Christ with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. The funeral will start at 2:00 p.m. with Josh Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Evening Shade/Sharp Cemetery.
