With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of our beloved aunt, Nana Sue Pierce, who left this world peacefully February 26, 2026 surrounded by love. She passed away from complications of COPD in Ash Flat, Arkansas.
She was born March 8, 1938 in the Willis Township, Trumann, Arkansas to Ulis and Ruby (Meeker) Stewart. She grew up in the Liberty Hill community near Hardy, Arkansas and graduated from Ash Flat High School in 1957. After traveling around for a bit, she moved to Chicago and met Dennis Michael Pierce. One month later, they were married. They stayed happily married for 45 years until Dennis passed away. He was the "love of her life" and their life together was truly an adventure for both of them.
Sue loved family, animals, music, coffee, cigarettes, Star Trek, and Star Wars. She was always a Captain Kirk and Yoda fan.
Sue was a sassy, outspoken, strong-willed woman. You never knew what to expect when she was around. She told you the truth whether you liked it or not. She had an infectious smile that just brought you joy to see.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glenn and Charles Stewart; a sister, Deloris Lenz; two sisters-in-law, Raye and Kathryn Stewart; and a great-niece, Brittany Stewart.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Lynell Stewart (Terry Collins) of Imboden, AR, Dennis Stewart of Mount Olive, AR, Teressa (Glen) McElyea of Quitman, AR, Merle Stewart of Evening Shade, AR, Kristina (Tim) Scarbrough of Pangburn, AR, Anita (Rick) Jones of St. Louis, MO, Elaine (Dustin) Oberheim of St. Louis, MO, Randall Stewart of Branson, MO, Rebecca Rendell of Pangburn, AR, and Pam Olivas of West Plains, MO; 25 great-nieces and nephews; 27 great-great-nieces and nephews; along with many other family members and friends.
She treasured her nieces and nephews, embracing every moment with them and always treating them as if they were her own. And in many ways, they were.
Sue was a member of St. Jude Partners of Hope. Supporting St. Jude's was a cause very close to her heart. For over thirty years, her monthly contributions helped in the work to save children's lives. She said "she couldn't ever have children of her own so she wanted to help others that did". Her life was a rich and diverse tapestry with much love and many highlights, and she was grateful for it.
All who loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace (when pertinent), and undying love and caring for them.
The family of Sue Pierce sincerely thanks the staff of Ash Flat Nursing Home for their unwavering compassion and care which provided comfort and dignity in her stay at their facility. They became her family. She loved them as they did her.
Heartfelt thanks also go to the incredible team at Legacy Hospice: Stacey Stephens, Jeremiah Sanders, and Denise Byers. Your compassion, kindness, and dedication to Aunt Sue's care and comfort will never be forgotten. We are forever grateful for the support and love you provided to our entire family during this time.
Per her request, there will not be any services.
